If I were to be in Penang this Saturday, I would be sure to watch this dance performance at the George Town Festival 2011 to be held at the Taman Rekreasi Kuari, Penang Botanical Gardens.
It starts at 6:30pm. Admission is free.

That thorny fruit - Penang's famous Balik Pulau durians
Tis the season for durians..
If you are in Penang and love durians, you are at a sweet spot! Everyone knows Balik Pulau is famous for its durians but going there to the orchards could be quite an effort. The great news is the durians are now coming to you in the form of a durian promotion which will be held at the New World Park on Burmah Road from noon to 8pm daily from today until the July 31.
Durian varieties available include the famed Mao Shan Wang (King of Civet Cats) as well as Ang Sim (red heart), Khun Poh, Ang Heh (Red Prawn) and D24. Mangosteens and rambutans will also be sold alongside the durians.
Tip from a durian farmer: “Good durians can be smelt from a distance instead of having to sniff up close, and are lighter compared to durians yet to fully ripen.
“You also find the thorns less hard when you brush it against the palm of your hand.”

Fake eggs vs Real eggs
I love eggs, cooked any way. But the latest news on fake eggs is giving me the jitters. A report on fake eggs was made by a homemaker in Penang and the authorities have seized some eggs from a few egg stalls in the market to aid in investigations. Results are pending.
The homemaker said that the eggs did not smell like real eggs and were tasteless. They were also of unusual shapes and larger than real eggs. The fake egg also had a rougher surface than the genuine one.
When cracked, there was no sign of chalaza, the structure inside the egg that keeps the yolk in place and the fake egg white and yolk quickly mixed together, unlike that of real eggs.
Now tell me, would you be able to tell the difference between fake and real eggs if they were not labelled in the image below? Frankly, I couldn't. Take a look..
The fake egg yolk (left) is more yellowish than that of a normal egg.
The fake egg is the one on the right.
Watch this video made by CAP, Consumer Association of Penang, watchdog organization for consumers.
In fact, this fake egg thingy is not new. I remember receiving a forwarded email some years ago on fake eggs in China. It also includes instructions on how to make them. It was an eye-opener, to say the least. Is it a hoax, do you think? For more information, you can read the following
