After walking to all of our earlier destinations, today we rode the Metro to Montmartre.
Sacre Coeur is a neo-Romanesque-Byzantine basilica built in honor of the 58,000 dead of the Franco-Prussian War. Construction started in 1875 and was completed in 1914. It's located on a hill in the Montmartre section of Paris that provide a spectacular view of the city.
Montmartre is also home to a garishly lit variety of sex shops and a wearying repetition of souvenir stands.
Unfortunately, photography inside the basilica, even with a flash, is forbidden.
