DROID 2 Global is a World Phone

What would you call a smartphone with a 1.2 GHz processor that can make and receive calls from over 200 countries? You’d call it the DROID 2 Global.

Just a second. This is a phone for Verizon and yet it works worldwide? How to they do that?

Verizon has excellent coverage in the United States and is the preferred carrier for tens of millions of users. Oh, by the way. The GSM feature doesn’t work on AT&T or T-Mobile networks here in the States. Verizon isn’t about to have any part of that.

Multiple network access may be the future of cell phones, at least in the near term. The idea of multiple incompatible networks is an idea who’s time has come and gone. Technology has advanced to the point where you can have both CDMA and GSM access designed into the same device. Look for this idea to spread to tablets and other 3G/4G devices.

The way things are going, it looks like most 4G wireless data networks are going to be LTE in a few years. Yet, WiMAX is enjoying popularity too. Next we need LTE/WiMAX dual-mode transceivers for smartphones and computing devices.

What other tricks does the DROID 2 Global have up its sleeve? A slide-out QWERTY keyboard for one. That makes high speed messaging and email a lot easier. The camera is a 5 Megapixel model with a dual LED flash and DVD-D1 video capture.

Sprint Confirms Release Date for Motorola Xoom (WiFi Only Version)

It was only a few days ago I posted the leak on the Motorola Xoom WiFi only version being sold in stores May 8th. Well, it looks like our sources held up. Sprint, in a press release earlier today, has officially confirmed the May 8th launch date and a $599 price point. So, if for some reason you were waiting this whole time to pick up your own Xoom from Sprint and not say — the countless other retailers already selling the tablet, Sunday will be your lucky day! Verizon to Release a 16GB Model of the Motorola XOOM?

Motorola and Verizon could be introducing new storage options to the Motorola XOOM line with today’s leak suggesting that a 16GB model is in the works. It’ll be completely identical to the 32GB model – lack of 4G and everything. (Though it’s said it’ll be subject to the same upgrade process that 32GB model owners will need to go through.) No pricing, but we expect it to be a tad bit cheaper when it does come out. (Nothing too extreme like more than $100 less, though.)

I’m looking at two Web pages full of cell phones, 26 of them in all. They’re supported by wireless service from the major cellular carriers, including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. DROID vs DROID

You’ve heard plenty about the famous DROID phone, so named because it runs the Google Android operating system. But did you know that there were TWO of them? If you like the more rounded look, are happy with an on-screen keyboard, prefer the HTC Sense display presentation, and like the separate phone control buttons, you may prefer the HTC DROID ERIS.
