Formula One Red Bull demo along Jalan Bukit Bintang tomorrow

If you happen to be in the city tomorrow afternoon, you may want to head on over to Jalan Bukit Bintang for a never-before Formula One street demonstration by David Coulthard of Red Bull, i.e., if you are an F1 enthusiast, enjoys loud noise and don't mind being in a crowd of 50,000 (the expected number of people).

The performance area will be along the stretch of Jalan Bukit Bintang, starting from The Westin hotel and Pavilion to the Jalan Sultan Ismail junction after Lot 10.

In conjunction with this event, Jalan Bukit Bintang from Jalan Raja Chulan junction to Jalan Sultan Ismail turnoff will be closed to traffic from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. You can either go to the city early to secure parking or park way off and walk to the site. Just don't get caught in the jam of cars detouring.

Btw, the Malaysian Grand Prix will be from April 8 to 10 in Sepang. For visitors, if you haven't got hotel reservations yet, you would have a hard time securing one and that too at three times the usual rate.

Tattoos and moral rights: a couple of points to ponder

Apologies are owed to my correspondent who wrote me the following missive, which I meant to post last week but completely overlooked. He writes:
"My colleague and I were discussing, at length, the art of tattooing (it was, after all, Friday afternoon!).

My question is this, if a tattoo artist creates a unique design for a client, then this is tattooed on to the aforementioned client, does the tattoo artist still own any intellectual property rights (namely copyright) over this piece of art? If the tattooed subject were to go on to a profession (I can only think of modelling at this precise moment) where the tattoo was constantly broadcast to the general public, and the designer viewed this to be derogatory to their work, would they be able to litigate!"
It seems to me that the potentially derogatory public display and transmission of the tattoo is only one of a number of moral rights issues that can be discussed -- another one is whether, if the tattooed subject wishes to have the tattoo amended or removed, the tattoo artist has any ground upon which to object.

Readers' thoughts on the topic are naturally welcomed.

Amazing Visualization of the Most Recent 866 Earthquakes in Japan since March 11th.

Check this out – it is AMAZING!  It depicts the series of earthquakes that have occurred off the coast of Japan since March 11, 2011.  Make sure you set the “sticky dots” to display, and show “Magnitudes: All” for the full effect.  The animation shows the time series of 866 quakes (so far!), at depths from less than 2.5 km to over 50 km.  You can set the animation to go for the whole period since March 11th, for the past 7 days, or just for today.  Today alone there were 14 quakes, as of 11:00 am EDT.

Some other websites related to the Earthquakes in Japan (these sent by Kristen Grady): Radiation Map criticism): http://www.maproomblog.com/2011/03/an_irresponsible_radiation_map.php

You may have seen this one already, because I think it’s made the rounds, but it is pretty amazing! (drag the new image over the old one)

And this from Jenn Brisbane:
“I ran across this link this morning.  Amazing how useful community mapping can be in times of crisis.  Here is a google map that was created for people to list shelters in and around the Tokyo area.  Some of the shelters have a lot of detail such as # of beds, toilets, whether there is a nursery, and whether food is being provided.  I'm not sure if the people staying at these shelters are Tokyo residents or if they have transferred people from the tsunami-stricken areas to Tokyo.  Hopefully there are similar maps for shelters closer to the Sendai area.”
