X-citing surprise from RED AirAsia X OSAKA Double Decker bus

Hope you are having better luck with the weather at where you are. Kuala Lumpur has been having rain these past few days and it is raining as we speak.

The north-east monsoon season has started in Malaysia, so if you are visiting this part of the world at this time of the year, may I suggest you also pack an umbrella or you could buy one here. Umbrellas are plentiful here and are not too pricey too. You can find them at most shops and shopping complexes. The foldable type would be more convenient to have around. A raincoat might work better though umbrellas are more widely used and easily available if you need one.

Now here is something for you if you are in KL or PJ (Petaling Jaya). Caught this tweet from AirAsia that says:

[MALAYSIA] If you're in KL or PJ today, spot the #AirAsia X OSAKA Double Decker bus & be in for an X-citing surprise!

And from the AirAsia Facebook page..

If you're in Kuala Lumpur & Petaling Jaya today, there's no better way to welcome the weekend!

Keep an eye out for the sizzling RED AirAsia X OSAKA Double Decker bus, join in the fun and participate in the activities (& catch a glimpse of our Red Hot Cabin Crew!) and you'll be in for an X-citing surprise!

There you have it. Keep a lookout for the bus and join in the fun and activities. An X-citing surprise awaits!

New KTM Komuter trains to ease congestion

From one mode of transportation, the KL monorail, to another here.. to beat the traffic congestion, taking the Komuter train is another way of getting to and from work for those who live in an area where this train service is available. Unfortunately, this train service leaves much to be desired with the breakdowns and their not keeping to the schedules. Getting to work or classes late may be a daily consequence for some.

The good news is, KTM has bought 38 new six-car train sets (SCS) and the first set of SCS is scheduled to arrive at Port Klang on Sept 25. Another five more sets will be delivered between November and December, while the remaining 32 are scheduled to be delivered in stages from January to June 2012.

Below is a picture of the new six-car train set put up by KTM at KL Sentral for public display. Called My Komuter, the train has a design speed of 140km per hour and an operating speed of 120km per hour.

Interior of the new six-car train set.

Newly-added features include LCD info screens, LED destination indicator, two coaches for women, priority seating zone, dynamic route map, intercom and CCTV.

KTMB currently has 53 stations with the addition of two new ones in Sungai Gadut and Senawang to take passengers from Batu Caves to Sungai Gadut and Tanjung Malim to Port Klang.

KTM Komuter started its services with 64 Electric Multiple Units. On Aug 3, 1995, the first KTM Komuter train began taking passengers from Kuala Lumpur to Rawang. Free trips were offered until Aug 11, 1995.

There are also "women only" coaches.

Public transportation and Diversion of buses in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Bersih rally)

Read update for Saturday, Kuala Lumpur is deserted

If you are in Kuala Lumpur and have a need to go downtown tomorrow, the information below on road closure and public transportation diversion may be helpful. The Bersih 2.0 rally is supposed to take place tomorrow though the stadium venue has yet to be determined. I'm staying at home. Don't want to add to the traffic congestion nor want to be caught in one.

Folks in Penang are luckier. They have the chance to watch this awesome dance performance of the 12 Monkeys and more.

News on Bus diversion in KL from The Star:

KUALA LUMPUR: Puduraya, Hentian Putra and Hentian Pekeliling bus terminals will be temporarily closed from 12.01am to 10pm on Saturday as police close off major roads into the city centre.

Buses heading for Hentian Putra would be diverted to the Integrated Transport Terminal-Bandar Tasik Selatan (ITT-BTS) and those headed to Puduraya and Pekeliling would be diverted to Hentian Duta.

As to the last light rail transit and KL monorail stops that city bus and taxi passengers would be allowed to disembark at, please see image below.

Motorists using major roads in Kuala Lumpur may want to refer to the alerts on bus route diversions through DBKL's electronic signboards.

Puduraya bus terminal to reopen on April 16

Having not been to the Puduraya bus terminal or its vicinity ever since it was closed for upgrading last April, I was naturally excited by its progress driving by it the other day. The area is also quite devoid of traffic jams right now as you can see in the picture below.

Let's take a closer look.. New paintwork, of course. See the covered pedestrian walkway/waiting area in front of the terminal by the road? Commuters would appreciate this - great for rain or shine. The place is not quite ready yet, note the boarding.

Front-view.. Completely new look..

Familiar entry ramp. If you are driving, this is the only way in. This is one-way. Exit is through another way, at the back of the complex.

Good news for you if Puduraya is your hub for public transportation for going outstation, e.g., for going back to your hometown. The authorities have now set April 16 for the new date for the opening of the RM52mil terminal.

We will see a host of facilities that will improve the level of transportation services. There are two escalators heading to the basement where buses are parked and one travellator from a new main entrance to the ground floor.

Before, the waiting area was hot and uncomfortable for travellers waiting to get on or for people waiting for friends and family to arrive. The place used to be dusty and filled with carbon fumes. In the new terminal, heat from the bus engines and smoke will no longer affect the passengers at the ground floor with the new air-conditioned waiting area.

Other new features include ticket counters on the first floor, a surau (prayer area) on the second floor and a food court on the fourth floor.

All the 198 previous tenants including bus operators, food outlets, retail outlets, convenience stores and baggage storage will return to Puduraya. There will be 51 ticket counters for 72 bus companies.

Travellers to note:
- Puduraya terminal will only be for northbound routes
- Bandar Tasik Selatan terminal will be for southbound routes beginning March l, 2011
